Corrales is a custom-cabinet town
Corrales does not have tract housing. It has adobes from the 1800s with walls two feet thick, territorial-style houses built by hand in the seventies, horse properties with kitchens added in three phases over forty years, and newer custom homes on an acre or two along the ditches. The common thread is that nothing is standard. Walls are not plumb, corners are not ninety degrees, ceilings have vigas and beams at heights no catalog anticipated.
Stock cabinetry handles that with filler strips and shims, and the result always looks like what it is. Custom cabinetry built to the measured wall is the only approach that produces a fitted kitchen in a Corrales house, and it is the core of what we do. We measure at three heights, build the boxes to those numbers in our Edgewood shop, and scribe on site. The countertop is then templated against the installed cabinets, so the stone fits the cabinets and the cabinets fit the house.
The Corrales look
Most Corrales kitchens want to feel like they belong to the house. Stained knotty alder or hickory, a flat-panel or simple Shaker door, a hand-rubbed glaze that reads warm against plaster and brick floors. Open shelving in alder to show pottery. A stone that reads like earth: a honed gold or brown granite, a leathered charcoal, a travertine-toned quartzite. The island often becomes a piece of furniture in its own right, with a different wood or a contrasting stone top.
There is also a newer Corrales, in the custom homes along the north end and off Loma Larga, that wants a cleaner contemporary kitchen. Painted or rift-oak flat-panel doors, a white veined quartzite waterfall island, a full-height stone backsplash. We build both, out of the same shop, and the quality of the fit is the same.
Well water changes the recommendation
Most of Corrales is on private wells, and the water is hard. That matters more for a countertop than people expect. On a polished dark stone, mineral spotting appears within days of install if the sealer is not fresh, and on an unsealed stone it can soak in. For a Corrales household we usually recommend one of three things: a non-porous quartz in a color that hides water spots, a granite with enough pattern to disguise them between wipe-downs and a sealing schedule we show you how to keep, or a honed or leathered finish on natural stone, which hides spotting far better than a polish. We will tell you which one we would pick for your sink run and why.
Big kitchens, big slabs
Corrales kitchens tend to be large, and large kitchens mean seams. Where a seam falls is a design decision, not an afterthought. We lay out every cut on the actual slab, show you where the seams land before anything is cut, and place them where the eye does not go. For an island longer than a single slab we can book-match two slabs so the veining mirrors across the seam. That is the kind of thing a fabricator who is also the installer can promise and a reseller cannot.
Beyond the kitchen
Corrales houses have a lot of bathrooms, and the primary bath is often a project of its own. Marble or quartz vanity tops with undermount sinks, a custom vanity built to a non-standard width, a stone shower bench or curb cut from the same slab. We also build mudroom and laundry cabinetry, built-in bookcases, and the occasional tack-room counter. If it is wood or stone and it goes in a house, it comes out of the same shop.
What we do in Corrales
- Granite Countertops — natural stone laid out on your actual slab, sealed at install.
- Quartz Countertops — engineered, non-porous, never sealed — the zero-maintenance choice.
- Marble Countertops — vanities, surrounds, and baking stations, with honest guidance on etching.
- Countertop Replacement — tear out tile, laminate, or dated stone and install new tops in days, not weeks.
- Custom Cabinets — built to your walls in our Edgewood shop, not ordered in three-inch increments.
- Cabinet Refacing — new doors, drawer fronts, and veneer on boxes that are still sound.
- Kitchen Remodeling — cabinets and countertops from one crew, on one schedule.
- Bathroom Remodeling — custom vanities and stone tops built to the space you actually have.
- Commercial & Hospitality — hotel vanities, reception desks, break rooms, and multi-unit cabinet packages.
Choosing a countertop material in Corrales
Most people arrive with a material already in mind. We will fabricate whatever you choose, but we are also going to tell you where each one struggles, because the climate here is not neutral. Corrales houses are oriented to the bosque and the Sandias, which often means a wall of east or west glass over the kitchen. Most of Corrales is on private wells with heavy mineral content, which is the single biggest factor in what we recommend for a countertop there.
- Granite — $55–$95 per sq ft installed. Igneous stone, every slab unique, indifferent to heat and sun. Needs sealing every one to three years. The default recommendation for sunrooms, outdoor bars, and anyone who cooks hard.
- Quartz — $65–$120 per sq ft installed. Engineered, non-porous, never sealed, consistent from sample to slab. The default for busy family kitchens and for anyone who will not think about maintenance. Keep it out of direct all-day sun.
- Marble — $75–$150 per sq ft installed. The most beautiful stone we cut and the softest. Perfect for vanities, fireplace surrounds, and a baking station. Etches from acids in a working kitchen, and we will say so.
- Quartzite — $85–$160 per sq ft installed. Natural stone that reads like marble and wears like granite. The answer when someone wants a white veined top in a kitchen that actually gets used.
Every one of those is templated, cut, and polished in our shop at 2369 Old Hwy 66, Edgewood, NM 87015, which is why we can hold a seam tight and keep an overhang even. You can see the full breakdown on our pricing guide.
How we build cabinets for Corrales homes
Custom does not mean expensive for its own sake. It means the box is built to the wall you actually have, in the increment you actually need, rather than the closest three-inch stock size plus a filler strip. In a region where very few walls are square and ceiling heights change room to room, that is usually the difference between a kitchen that looks fitted and one that looks installed.
- Boxes. Three-quarter-inch plywood, not particleboard. Particleboard that has met water once — a slow dishwasher leak, a sink trap drip — swells and never recovers. Plywood survives it.
- Doors and drawer fronts. Shaker, flat-slab, raised panel, or inset. Paint-grade maple or poplar, stain-grade alder, hickory, oak, or walnut. Knotty alder is the regional favorite for a reason: it takes a warm stain and hides the dings of a real household.
- Hardware. Soft-close hinges and full-extension undermount drawer slides as standard. Not an upgrade.
- Finish. Sprayed in the shop, not brushed on site. Conversion varnish over stain, or a catalyzed enamel over paint. It is the difference between a finish that holds up to fifteen years of hands and one that chips at the pulls in two.
- Layout. Drawers where you reach down, doors where you reach up. Pull-outs for trash and spices. A pantry that uses the full height of the wall. This is the part that makes a kitchen work, and it is the part a catalog cannot do.
Typical installed pricing runs $350–$900 per linear ft installed depending on wood species, door style, and how much of the run is drawers. Full details on custom cabinets →
Why hiring one shop for cabinets and countertops matters in Corrales
Most remodels in Corrales involve two companies who have never met: one sets cabinets, another fabricates stone. When the countertop does not sit flat, each explains why it is the other’s fault, and you are left holding a gap, a tube of caulk, and two phone numbers.
We run both sides under one roof. Cabinets are set and leveled by our crew, then the countertop is templated against those cabinets, cut in the same building, and installed by the same people. If something is off, it is ours, and there is nobody to point at. That is not a slogan. It is the reason the business is structured this way, and it is the reason the seams line up.
It also has a practical scheduling benefit. One contractor means one calendar, so cabinets and tops land in sequence instead of leaving your kitchen torn out for a week while a second company finds an opening.
How a project runs with us
- Call or send the form. Jesus answers, asks what you are trying to do, and books a time to come measure. Corrales is about forty-five minutes from the shop via I-40 and Coors, and we are there often.
- On-site measurement and a straight conversation. We look at the room, the plumbing, the walls, and how you cook. If a material is wrong for your situation, this is where we say so.
- One written number. Template, fabrication, tear-out, install, haul-away, sealing. No per-item surprises after the fact.
- Slab or sample approval. For natural stone you see the actual slab and where the cuts land. For cabinets you approve a door sample and a finish chip.
- Fabrication in Edgewood. Cabinets built and finished in the shop. Countertops laser-templated once the cabinets are set and level, then cut on the CNC and polished.
- Install by the same crew. The people who measured are the people who build and the people who install. One point of contact from first visit to final walkthrough.
Countertop-only projects typically run one to two weeks from template to install. Full cabinet packages run four to eight weeks depending on wood and finish. A complete kitchen remodel is usually six to ten weeks once materials are approved.

Corrales Questions
Our Corrales house is adobe and nothing is square. Can you build cabinets for it?
That is exactly the house custom cabinetry exists for. We measure every wall at three heights, build the boxes in our Edgewood shop to those dimensions, and scribe the finished ends and fillers to the actual wall on install day. Stock cabinets fight an adobe wall with shims and caulk. Ours are built for it.
We are on a well. Which countertop handles hard water best?
A non-porous quartz in a light or mid-tone color is the easiest to live with on well water: minerals sit on the surface and wipe off, and there is nothing for them to soak into. Granite works well too if it is kept sealed, and a busier pattern hides spotting between wipe-downs. We would steer a Corrales household away from a polished absolute black unless you are committed to maintaining it.
Do you charge extra to come to Corrales?
No. We are in Corrales and the North Valley regularly, and the drive is part of the schedule. Estimates are free.
What do custom cabinets cost for a Corrales kitchen?
Typical installed pricing is $350–$900 per linear ft installed, and Corrales kitchens tend toward the upper half because the rooms are large and people choose stain-grade alder, hickory, or walnut rather than paint-grade. We measure your layout and give you one number that includes design, build, finish, delivery, and install.
