When a Rio Rancho kitchen needs more than a reface
Most Rio Rancho kitchens are fine on the perimeter and wrong in the middle. The builder put in a peninsula or a small island that does not work for how the family actually uses the room. The pantry is a closet with wire shelves. The uppers stop a foot below the ceiling. The boxes themselves are usually plywood and solid, so the smart project is often a hybrid: reface the perimeter, and build new custom pieces where the layout needs to change. A new island sized to the room with deep drawers and seating. A full-height pantry wall with pull-outs. Uppers that run to the ceiling. The eye goes to the new pieces, and the money goes where the eye goes.
For a full new package, which makes sense when the layout changes substantially or the boxes have met water, we build every box to the measured room in our Edgewood shop, spray the finish, and install with the same crew. The countertop is templated against the installed cabinets and cut in the same building.
The Rio Rancho look
Painted Shaker in white or soft greige with a navy or sage island is the dominant request from Enchanted Hills to Mariposa. Flat-slab doors in a light rift oak for a cleaner modern look in the newer custom lots. Stained alder for the handful of older houses and the acreage lots toward Corrales. Soft-close hinges, full-extension undermount slides, and a pull-out trash cabinet are standard on everything we build, not upgrades.
Dry air and shop-built cabinets
Rio Rancho humidity sits in the teens for much of the year. Cabinets built in a humid factory and shipped here shrink, and the joints and panels show it within a season. Ours are built and finished in Edgewood, at the same altitude and in the same air, so what arrives has already acclimated.
Neighborhoods we build for
Enchanted Hills, Northern Meadows, Loma Colorado, Cabezon, Mariposa, Rio Rancho Estates, Chamisa, and the older core, plus Corrales and Bernalillo. Full details on our Rio Rancho service page.
How we build cabinets for Rio Rancho homes
Custom does not mean expensive for its own sake. It means the box is built to the wall you actually have, in the increment you actually need, rather than the closest three-inch stock size plus a filler strip. In a region where very few walls are square and ceiling heights change room to room, that is usually the difference between a kitchen that looks fitted and one that looks installed.
- Boxes. Three-quarter-inch plywood, not particleboard. Particleboard that has met water once — a slow dishwasher leak, a sink trap drip — swells and never recovers. Plywood survives it.
- Doors and drawer fronts. Shaker, flat-slab, raised panel, or inset. Paint-grade maple or poplar, stain-grade alder, hickory, oak, or walnut. Knotty alder is the regional favorite for a reason: it takes a warm stain and hides the dings of a real household.
- Hardware. Soft-close hinges and full-extension undermount drawer slides as standard. Not an upgrade.
- Finish. Sprayed in the shop, not brushed on site. Conversion varnish over stain, or a catalyzed enamel over paint. It is the difference between a finish that holds up to fifteen years of hands and one that chips at the pulls in two.
- Layout. Drawers where you reach down, doors where you reach up. Pull-outs for trash and spices. A pantry that uses the full height of the wall. This is the part that makes a kitchen work, and it is the part a catalog cannot do.
Typical installed pricing runs $350–$900 per linear ft installed depending on wood species, door style, and how much of the run is drawers. Full details on custom cabinets →
Why hiring one shop for cabinets and countertops matters in Rio Rancho
Most remodels in Rio Rancho involve two companies who have never met: one sets cabinets, another fabricates stone. When the countertop does not sit flat, each explains why it is the other’s fault, and you are left holding a gap, a tube of caulk, and two phone numbers.
We run both sides under one roof. Cabinets are set and leveled by our crew, then the countertop is templated against those cabinets, cut in the same building, and installed by the same people. If something is off, it is ours, and there is nobody to point at. That is not a slogan. It is the reason the business is structured this way, and it is the reason the seams line up.
It also has a practical scheduling benefit. One contractor means one calendar, so cabinets and tops land in sequence instead of leaving your kitchen torn out for a week while a second company finds an opening.
How a project runs with us
- Call or send the form. Jesus answers, asks what you are trying to do, and books a time to come measure. Rio Rancho is about fifty minutes from the shop and we batch measurements and installs there.
- On-site measurement and a straight conversation. We look at the room, the plumbing, the walls, and how you cook. If a material is wrong for your situation, this is where we say so.
- One written number. Template, fabrication, tear-out, install, haul-away, sealing. No per-item surprises after the fact.
- Slab or sample approval. For natural stone you see the actual slab and where the cuts land. For cabinets you approve a door sample and a finish chip.
- Fabrication in Edgewood. Cabinets built and finished in the shop. Countertops laser-templated once the cabinets are set and level, then cut on the CNC and polished.
- Install by the same crew. The people who measured are the people who build and the people who install. One point of contact from first visit to final walkthrough.
Countertop-only projects typically run one to two weeks from template to install. Full cabinet packages run four to eight weeks depending on wood and finish. A complete kitchen remodel is usually six to ten weeks once materials are approved.

Custom Cabinets in Rio Rancho: Questions
Can you just build a new island and leave the rest?
Yes, and it is one of the most common Rio Rancho projects. We build the island to the room in your chosen style, match or contrast the perimeter, and put a new stone top on it. Often the perimeter gets refaced at the same time so everything matches.
How much do custom cabinets cost in Rio Rancho?
Typical installed pricing is $350–$900 per linear ft installed. A single island or pantry wall is a much smaller number than a full kitchen. We measure and give you one written price. Call (505) 203-5508.
Do you handle the countertop too?
Yes, and that is the point. Cabinets set and leveled by our crew, countertop templated against them, cut in the same shop, installed by the same people. One schedule, one invoice, no gap between two contractors.
How long does it take?
Four to eight weeks from approved drawings to install for a full package; less for an island or pantry alone. Install is two to four days on site.
